Welcome to random car fact of the day where I tell you little known automotive facts that come into my mind.
Oldsmobile introduced the 442 package in 1964. Its name comes from 4-barrel carburetor, 4-speed manual gearbox and dual exhaust system that the original 442 had.

Yes, but is there a four-door sedan version of older 4-4-2s (4-4-4-2 LOL)? I've only seen fastbacks so far.
Then again the ad above is not a photograph, so it doesn't mean a lot.

Theoretically, the 4 door probably existed somehow. You could always option a lot of things.

I used to remember the year by year changes to what 442 stood for. But I'm rusty :\

Were there more than two? I only know about this and 400 cid, 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust.

In 70 the 455 came along. Then in 72 you could get a "442" on any Cutlass model (possibly expluding the Cutlass Supreme?). So in 72 is was more of an appearance package than a performance package. I'm lost for a while after that because malaise. I think in the 80s it mean 4 barrel 4 speed auto dual exhaust. Then in the 90s there was the Quad 4 powered 442. By then it stood for 4 cylinder, 4 valves, and DOHC(2 cams). So in other words they gave the Quad 4 a different name. Why I remember the 90s one is beyond me.
